ABOUT US

“Peace in our schools: Promoting interfaith dialogue and preventing hate and violence through Peace Education ”

— why we do what we do

“Young people from different backgrounds should work together to build conditions for peace, combat hate of all kinds, and make the world a more peaceful place for future generations so that no children’s dreams either in Afghanistan and Georgia or anywhere in the world are shattered by war, hate, and violence”.
- Ramiz Bakhtiar
Co-founder of the Network of Former Youth Delegates to the United Nations

“I truly believe that lack of Peace Education is the main cause of hate speech, which is why we need to fight antisemitism on a root level, by working with young people. That is exactly what the Peace in Our Schools project would like to achieve. We are not simply working together to teach the future generations about peace, but also showing with our very own example that peace is possible”.
- Lika Torikashvili
Co-founder of the Network of Former Youth Delegates to the United Nations

Peace in Our Schools is one of the projects by the Network of Former Youth Delegates to the United Nations organization – a global network that unites former and current UN Youth Delegates, young leaders, and peacebuilders from across the world to work together and make a global impact.

The Peace In Our Schools project was made possible with the generous support of the World Jewish Congress

Here is a short story about our relationship. In 2020, the World Jewish Congress opened the call for applications for its annual Campus Pitch grant competition. Campus Pitch is an initiative of the World Jewish Congress and Consulate General of Israel in New York which invites university students at the undergraduate or graduate level to pitch their idea for a strategy or initiative that takes a new approach to combat antisemitism through local-level peacebuilding and social cohesion.

In 2020, Lika Torikashvilli and Ramiz Bakhtiar, the founders of the Network of Former Youth Delegates to the United Nations organization pitched the Peace In Our Schools idea which offered a great strategy to address hate, build peace, social cohesion, and interfaith friendship through teaching peacebuilding and conflict resolution techniques to school children and young adults.

After an intensive interview process with the World Jewish Congress and Consulate General of Israel in New York, three winning proposals were selected, and the Peace In Our Schools initiative was one of the winning proposals based on its approach, reach, method, and implementation plan.

Peace in Schools is currently a part of WJC's think-tank, NextGenInc.
