Peace in Our Schools | Research Paper by Lika Torikashvili

The objective of this paper is to highlight the importance of promoting peacebuilding and conflict resolution education as a compulsory component of schooling in all countries. It presents a view of an inevitable connection between peace education and the creation of peaceful societies, as well as the culture of peace. The paper argues that peace education programs must be accessible to all young people, and not be limited by the countries where young people are affected by violent conflict. The paper begins with an overview of the UN Resolutions on Youth and Peace, and suggests an argument that if we want to realize UNSCR2250, as well as achieve all 17 SDGs by year 2030, we have to urgently start introducing peacebuilding curriculums to schools worldwide. Furthermore, the paper presents research articles and case studies done in the field. The paper also discusses the important work that the UN had been doing to promote peace education, as well as gives suggestions on the potential curriculums. The paper concludes with recommendations and action items in order to make the peace building and conflict resolution education for all a reality.
